Rep. Tram Nguyen Statement on New Visa Requirements

Andover, MA: Today, State Representative Tram Nguyen issued the below statement on new visa requirements put in place from the Trump Administration.

“My family and millions like ours through generations of American history came to this country seeking refuge from persecution and injustice. Now, the Trump Administration is requiring people seeking visas to deny that they fear persecution in their home countries or risk being denied entry. This is yet another decision that stands in stark contrast to our values as a welcoming place for families like mine who are fleeing violence, oppression and political persecution. As an immigrant and an immigration attorney, I know that security and compassion can go hand in hand. We must uphold the rule of law while treating people with dignity and fairness, and we should be strengthening lawful pathways for those seeking safety, not closing the door on them.”
